Glutamine is the most abundant amino acid in muscle tissue (60% of human protein is glutamine). It is a conditionally essential amino acid — the body produces enough under normal conditions, but during intense training, stress, or illness, demand exceeds production.
Functions: recovery after intense training, immunity support (60% of the immune system is in the gut, and glutamine is its main fuel), gut lining regeneration ("leaky gut" prevention), nitrogen balance maintenance.
When choosing glutamine, focus on the right form and dose.
Regular fitness-level training (3-4 workouts a week, 1 hour) with a healthy diet — glutamine supplementation will not add much. The body produces enough, and you get glutamine from food (protein sources). Money spent on separate glutamine is better invested in protein or creatine.
